This is a great site and resource for people who are confined to wheelchairs and need help. A hotel or B&B with a ceiling Hoist means a couple can have a decent holiday or week away without the carer or partner, breaking their backs and tiring themselves out before even starting the holiday!
Please keep up the pressure and the good work liaising with hotel chains - until we have these in 75% of hotels in the UK!!

My wife Carol has had MS for 12 years. On all our visits we need a hoist. If you are reading this then no doubt so do you.
In addition to ceiling hoists we also hire mobile ones. However you may be interest in a 'disable friendly' villa that we have found in Lagos, in the Algarve in Portugal Run by a British couple who live on site they provide ALL mobility aids; hoists, commodes, wheelchairs, etc. As there is little or no disable transport in Portugal they will collect you from the airport, take you back at the end of your hols and let you use the wheelchair accessible vehicle Free of Charge whilst you are there. If you would like more info please feel free to contact me or go direct to; ableto holiday.com.
Nice to see more UK hotels are getting ceiling hoists.

Someone posted a petition that came to my email about the lack of ceiling hoists in hotels.
It is through that I found this site. How ***. I have a daughter who hasnt stayed away from home for 10 years, as her carers have to hoist her.
I also have a child in my care whose sister is in another foster home and has to be hoisted. We have not found a place for them to stay together on holiday.
Up to now Ive tried using google and have failed to find what we need. Your site will make a huge difference to us now that i've found it... Thankyou

What a wonderful site! We can now visit our granddaughter for her 18th birthday. We have booked into the Holiday Inn in Cardiff. We have tried for so many years to find REAL disabled accommodation. I had to double check that the Holiday Inn did in fact have a hoist in the bathroom but they have confirmed that it has. We are looking forward to our break. I will let you know how we get on.

My husband and I have just stayed @ The Crowne Plaza Hotel near Heathrow Airport.
We booked last September and had to ask for confirmation that we had the room with the hoist booked. ( They only confirmed initially that we had a disabled access room booked)
On arrival @ our room, there was no hoist.
It arrived quickly after we made a call.
it was not charged and there were no instructions with it.
We have fed these problems back to the hotel.
They have been quick to respond.
The room was well appointed with alarms and pull down arms and grab rails in the bathroom.

Does anyone know of any CHs in european hotels. Can't we lobby the EU for at least one in every capital. They have the money and the clout to make it happen

My husband and I were excited to see your website as we use a portable over-the-bed lift when we travel since he has spinal muscular atrophy. We're in Florida and would love to travel to Europe! We often travel to Las Vegas because the public wheelchair transportation is excellent, the best we've ever seen, and The Treasure Island Hotel in Vegas has ceiling lifts. We highly recommend them. There are also several DME companies in town if you need to rent any equipment.

I have just spent a week at Crieff in the Abercairney Lodge. While the picture looks inviting the reality is that the track for the hoist does not go to the shower where the seat and handles are. It goes to the bath but not in a comfortable place. Neither does it go to the toilet. We were required to swing my sister in an attempt to get her in position and finally had to borrow a commode. The hotel have promised to review matters so future users, please check this has been done. :sigh

Hi, just to say my husband and I have just had a 3 night break at the Orchard Hotel Nottingham.
all aspects of the hotel and room are a very good quality, having 2 hoists is a bonus. We brought our own folding shower commode chair and there was ample room for that and a power chair in the room for transfers. Shower/wet room very spacious , grounds and public area very good. Parts of the campus were hilly, may be a problem if using a manual chair. Only tried public transport from outside the hotel once, bus only every half hour, when it came already had push chair on so we would have had to wait another 30mins and no guara :p ntee of getting on. Saw lots of buses in Nottingham saying every 10 mins from campus so perhaps there is a better stop.
Any way thanks for finding this hotel, made another option for a short break. :p

very interested in this as i work for people who need hoisting and are very limited to going away even just for a day trip somewhere. in this day and age you,d think there would be hoists ina lot more places but alas no !

What a fantastic site. It's given me hope that we might actually be able to have a break without lugging our portable hoist (which is not easily portable ) with us. Wish I had found you before. Will definitely be looking into some holidays. :)

I haven't read your website for some time but the update is very good, quite impressed.
My wife has MS and cannot stand or walk. We have used the Holiday Inn and Copthorne Tara in Kensington and the Craithies cottages in Balmoral. We recommend all of them.
I have also found your holiday lets in Cornwall very good.
Finally I have emailed dozens of friends asking them to sign Brian Seaman's e-petition.
