To the Ceiling Hoist users Club web-site:

CHuC (the Ceiling Hoist users Club) has been set up by Equal Ability CIC to promote the interests of those disabled people who need to use hoists and particularly those who need, or prefer, ceiling track hoists. The lack of ceiling track hoists in away from home accommodation (hotels, guest houses and self-catering accommodation) severely limits many disabled people’s ability to go away for leisure, business, or important social events. ...more

Great Yarmouth B&B ?

We have been asked to find out whether our readers would use accessible B&B accommodation in Great Yarmouth with ceiling track hoists. There would be 2 bedrooms, one with a conventional bathroom and another with a Closomat toilet. Both bedrooms would have a hoist which traversed from the bed to the bathroom. There would be an additional room for a PA / carer. Please select YES or NO and press the vote button.

IHG provide sponsorship for CHuC website

Sue Maynard Campbell MBE, Managing Director of Equal Ability CIC says:

"CHuC is delighted to have received sponsorship from IHG.  Their support in this way has enabled us to get our distinctive new logo designed, which we hope will become known around the world.  More importantly it has enabled us to employ someone part-time to undertake research and development work.  This will build links with disability organisations around the world to increase ceiling hoist users’ knowledge of hoist availability and raise their expectations of having this fundamental need met in away from home accommodation.  It will also help us to research the further availability of accommodation with hoists, particularly outside the UK, and build our website information database.  By raising the profile and gathering information on the need we can persuade those who could install hoists, to do so.  We are therefore really grateful to IHG for their generosity.  Thank you IHG!!"

Christopher Rawstron (IHG Vice President Operations UK and Ireland):

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) understands that every customer has different needs and we aim to make our hotel facilities available and accessible to all of our guests equally here in the UK. By providing ceiling track hoist facilities in the following key locations, our hotels are now better positioned to meet the specialised needs of the many disabled guests who require this facility either for overnight accommodation, or as part of a conference or event, and we are confident this development will significantly increase our customer base:

  • Crowne Plaza London – Heathrow
  • Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum
  • Holiday Inn London – Bloomsbury
  • Holiday Inn Birmingham M6, Jct. 7
  • Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre

IHG, which operates InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Express by Holiday Inn brands in the UK, is delighted to be working with Equal Ability CIC and the Ceiling Hoist Users Club (CHuC) to promote the importance of ceiling track hoists in hotels, and to raise the level of awareness among user groups about hotels where these special facilities already exist

IHG win yet another prestigious award for accessibility.

Where do you want to stay?

Let us know where you would like to see a hotel with a ceiling track hoist available in the UK. It could be a major city or a seaside resort or even a quiet country getaway. Tell us where and we will see what we can do to persuade a hotel there or close by to fit a hoist for the most popular choices....more

We need your help! Do you know of any other accommodation where ceiling track hoists are available for the guests? If so please let us know and we will list the details on our accommodation page.

September 2007

We are currently conducting an e-mail campaign to Tourist Organisations throughout the UK and overseas in order to identify more accommodation with ceiling track hoists. Early results of the campaign are disappointing in that no new accommodation has been identified. It does seem to show however that the UK is leading the way in providing hoists in mainstream away from home accommodation! See the results so far here.
